It's different when it's yours.

I've spent a lot of my career working out how organisations work and what to do when they don't.

But owning a business taught me something I didn't fully understand when I was leading other organisations.

It's different when it's yours.

The stakes are higher, you're more emotionally involved and the risks feel greater.

You might know someone's performance needs to be addressed while also knowing they're going through a really difficult time personally. You might have a team that's incredibly busy but can't work out why that isn't showing up in the numbers. Or you might have hired people specifically to take things off your plate and somehow find yourself more involved than you were before.

And when you're the owner, it can be surprisingly hard to find someone to work those things through with.

Your team can come to you. Your managers can come to you. But you can't necessarily take your problems back to them. Friends and family will listen, but unless they've run a business themselves, they don't always get it.

Sometimes you just need someone outside the business who can support you, while you're supporting everyone else.

That's a big part of why I created KV Business Studio.

I'll ask questions, look at what's happening and tell you what I can see. Sometimes that might mean going through your numbers. Other times we might pull apart a role, look at how work is flowing through the business, prepare for a difficult conversation or question whether the thing you're trying to fix is actually the problem.

I'm not just going to listen, i'm going to challenge, support and bring something to the table too.

Business consulting and mentoring

Ways We Can Work Together

1:1 Business Consulting

Studio Sessions

1:1 business consulting for allied health, healthcare and service-based business owners

Sometimes you don't need another course or an ongoing consulting program. You just need another experienced person to look at the business with you.

Studio Sessions are 60-minute 1:1 sessions for business owners and leaders who are already on their business journey and have something they want to work through.

You might be wondering:

  • Is the right time for another staff member and what are the risks?

  • Are our billable expectations realistic and why aren't people meeting them?

  • Why do we have a full team but capacity is still an issue?

  • Do I need another practitioner, more admin support or another layer of leadership?

  • Should this role be an employee or a contractor and how to stop staff turnover?

  • Why aren't our margins where I expected them to be, where's our money going and how do I budget?

  • Is our CRM used efficiently or are we burning dollars?

  • Why have referrals slowed down and do we have enough coming in to maintain our current staffing team?

  • Does our marketing actually reflect the business we've become?

  • How do I manage a staffing or leadership issue that's been sitting there for too long?

  • What do I actually do next?

Or you might have a completely different problem you've been going around in circles on.

Bring it.

We can look at your numbers, staffing structure, KPIs, systems, workflows, marketing, documents or whatever else is relevant.

You don't need to turn it into a polished business question first.

Behaviour Support Business Mentoring

The Start-Up Studio

1:1 mentoring for new Behaviour Support business owners

Being a good Behaviour Support Practitioner and knowing how to run a Behaviour Support business are two very different things.

Once you decide to work for yourself, there's suddenly a whole business sitting behind the practitioner work.

How will referrals come in? What happens when they do? What CRM should you use? What needs to go in your service agreement? How will you invoice? What policies do you need? How do you prepare for an NDIS audit? And when you're ready to grow, how on earth do you employ your first practitioner?

Then there are the hundreds of smaller questions that you don't even know you have yet.

The Start-Up Studio is 1:1 mentoring for Behaviour Support business owners who are starting out or still finding their feet as a provider.

We can work through things like:

  • How do I ge referrals and what are the most efficient intake pathways

  • What is a CRM and how do I choose one?

  • What is a service agreements, consent form and intake documentation and why do I even need them?

  • billing and invoicing guidelines and procedures

  • policies and why on earth do I need a continuity plan and risk register when it's just me?

  • workflows and back-end systems

  • managing enquiries, waitlists and capacity

  • employing your first practitioner

  • contractors versus employees and what's the deal with SHAM contracting?

  • practitioner pay structrures and billable expectations

  • induction and onboarding

  • supervision structures

  • caseloads and allocation

  • understanding the numbers behind employing staff

  • deciding what you actually need to have in place now and what can wait

You don't need to know what you don't know yet.

You can bring the questions as they come up and we'll work through the practical side of building the business around the work.

The Strategy Studio

The Strategy Studio

Small-group consulting for established Behaviour Support business owners

Running an established Behaviour Support provider brings a different set of problems.

You might be dealing with:

  • Recruitment that feels never-ending and good practitioners who are difficult to find.

  • Staff retention and working out what actually makes good people stay.

  • Building quality supervision without carrying an unsustainable amount of non-billable time.

  • Practitioner capacity that isn't translating into consistent billable hours.

  • Employees versus contractors and which staffing model makes sense for the business and the team

  • Managing performance and creating clear accountability.

  • Leadership roles that aren't quite doing what you expected them to.

  • CRMs that have become messy or aren't giving you the oversight you need.

  • Referral, intake and allocation processes that aren't being followed consistently.

  • Policies and processes that exist on paper but aren't always happening in the business.

  • Preparing for an NDIS audit or tightening things up between audits.

  • Plenty of enquiries, but clients dropping off somewhere between referral and actually commencing.

  • Margins that aren't quite where you think they should be.

  • Too much back-end admin still landing with you.

  • Trying to work out what the next stage of the business should actually look like.

  • Keeping up with changes to the NDIS while still trying to run the business.

What we'll work on

The Strategy Studio is focused on the actual businesses in the group.

There isn't one staffing model, KPI, supervision structure or system that's going to work for every Behaviour Support business. That's why we strategize. We solve problems. Another person's problem, may relate to yours, and solutions can be trasnfered accross various areas.

Working with Kerrie transformed our behaviour support practice. Her strategic insights into our systems and staffing models allowed us to scale without losing our clinical heart.

The Strategy Studio was exactly what I needed. The small group format provided practical solutions for the NDIS environment that I couldn't find anywhere else.

Kerrie's ability to look at numbers and leadership together is rare. She didn't just fix a process; she helped me become a more effective leader of my studio.
